Over a year ago, during the first Kurentovanje festival, about 20 vendors set up their wares at the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair for a mini flea market that featured primarily local artists and craftspeople, many of them with an offbeat sensibility similar to that of the Bazaar Bizarres.
They loved the vibe so much that starting last April, the events, dubbed the Cleveland Flea, became a monthly fixture in the parking lot of Sterle’s County House. They grew with each successive month to include more artists, collectibles dealers, vintage clothing, and local foodmakers, all aimed at a hip urban mindset, and ever-larger crowds.
Now it’s back for another season. Look for the same eclectic mix of vendors, as well as new offering like the Flea’s new series of Maker classes happening each month.
The April Flea, for instance, will feature a workshop on making rhubarb compote by Kelli of Geauga County’s Agrarian Collective, which focuses on promoting a healthier lifestyle around food. It takes place from 1:30-2pm; tickets are $25. There will also be a terrarium workshop inside Sterle’s from 1:30-2pm; the $35 fee includes all material for a terrarium to take home with you.
The Flea itself is free.
