Cleveland’s Obnox Celebrates New Record @NowThatsClass

Fri 4/11 @ 9PM

Cleveland’s Obnox, the personal project of This Moment in Black History drummer Lamont “Bim” Thomas, has been simmering for years, occasionally bubbling over into a track here and there of sparse, garage-y blues.

TMIBH has been only sporadically active in the last several years, which apparently has given Thomas plenty of time to create on his own. He’s become a music-making machine.

In 2011, he released his first full-length as Obnox, I’m Bleeding Now, originally on the formerly Cleveland-based label (now relocated to Brooklyn), Cleveland’s Smog Veil Records. It was reissued by Austin-based 12XU Records, which has been pushing out the material as fast as Thomas can create it, with Free Enterprise coming out last June and now the new Louder Space with a bunch of singles coming out in between. His fuzzy, scuzzy music has been earning rave reviews from indie publications and websites, and even The Washington Post, which said, “No one in this world is making rock-and-roll as singular as Lamont “Bim” Thomas.”

Thomas will formally introduce Louder Space to his hometown with a CD release show at Now That’s Class. Memphis garage punk band the Fuzz, and Cleveland’s Royal Blood and Shitbox Jimmy open.

Tickets are $5.
