The Weapons of Mass Creation Fest, which brings together musicians, designers, and entrepreneurial speakers for a weekend in Cleveland, has announced its dates for 2014. Going into its fifth year, it will maintain the switch to August it made last year, taking place August 15-17.
The event will again happen at the Cleveland Public Theatre complex in Gordon Square, although event director Todd Gauman says they’re looking at reconfiguring the layout based on input from last year, making it less spread out and not using Parish Hall.
Among other things, they’re cutting back the number of bands to 20 from 49 last year to make sure that they are more prominently incorporated into the overall event.
“We’ll have 20 bands, 20 speakers, 20 designers,” says Gauman. “We’re looking at more workshops and breakout sessions, and tracking it. So if you’re interested in photography or in digital design, you can go to things that interest you.”
The festival has also brought on two new team members to oversee speaker booking: Chicago-based graphic artist Margo Harrington and San Francisco-based CNN art director Stewart Curran. It will also have new music bookers who will be announced soon.
The event brings in musicians, artists, and speakers from around the country, as well as featuring creative young talent from Northeast Ohio.
