Bella Sin is one tireless gal.
It’s been a decade since the local burlesque performer launched her troupe, Le Femme Mystique. She’s put together an endless string of burlesque shows, ferreting out talent from all over the country and even abroad.
She launched the Ohio Burlesque Festival in 2011, which will have its 4th iteration July 31-August 2 at the Beachland Ballroom. And she’s constantly creating new routines, crafting her own costumes, and teaching burlesque classes. She’s even spearheading a drive to place a historical marker on the site of the legendary Roxy burlesque theater downtown.
And for Valentine’s Day, she’s presenting the 3rd annual Sweetheart Showcase aka “Some Like It Hot,” which she’s calling Le Femme Mystique’s “season opener.” She says will celebrate “old school Hollywood glamour.”
She’ll perform herself, along with Columbus’ Cherie Blondell, who’ll pay tribute to Marilyn Monroe, Canada’s Bianca Boom Boom, who mixes singing and peeling, and Cleveland’s Miss Doll Bambino, among others. And in the traditional style of burlesque and vaudeville, there will be a variety of acts — in the past she’s booked torch singers, comedians, magicians, and puppeteers. She’s promising hula hoopers and belly dancers this time around. It all takes place at the Beachland Ballroom.
Tickets are $15 in advance, and $17 at the door. They include free admission to the New Wave Rave in the Beachland Tavern.
