Gavin Cushman III played guitar in the band Blush with his siblings — a close-knit, homeschooled Christian brood from the Canton area.
Cushman has stepped out with his own project called Gavin The Third, but a couple of his siblings are still involved with his brothers Andrew on guitar and Stephen on drums. (The group also includes Josh King on bass.)
Heavier than the pop-leaning rock of Blush, Gavin the Third’s music draws from bands like Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, and Queens of the Stone Age. Last year, he hooked up with producer Jim Wirt, who’s worked with Incubus, Alien Ant Farm, Live, and L.A. Guns, to record a five-song EP at Cleveland’s Crushtone Studios. It’s been released on the studio’s partner Crushtone Records.
He’s now got the follow-up in hand — an 11-song CD. He and his band will be celebrating its release at Musica in Akron where you can pick up a copy for only $5. Also on the bill are Project 86, Drowning in Amnesty, and Bare Walls. It’s an early show and Gavin The Third will go on at 7:30pm.
