Jiayan Sun “only” took fourth place in last year’s Cleveland International Piano Competition, which brings together roster of nearly 30 of the world’s best young pianists, 30 and under, every other year to compete in Cleveland.
But he also won the audience prize as the favorite of the discerning crowd who attends the multiple concerts the competition entails. He left an indelible impression performing Tchaikovsky’s oft-played and very popular Piano Concerto No.1 in the final round. Apparently, they heard something fresh in his approach.
He’s returning to northeast Ohio to perform the piece again with the Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra for two concerts at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre. Steve Eva conducts.
Tickets are $30, $15 for students.
