Nora Jane Struthers & the Party Line seem to be all over the place. The spirited, folksy Americana group made several area appearances last year, and they’re back again — this time performing an intimate show on Nighttown’s new back patio (Don’t worry — it’s enclosed and heated!)
Struthers’ sweet blonde good looks, unfussy soprano, bluegrass-influenced tunes, and vintage dresses suggest that she’s a simple country girl. But the Virginia-bred, New York-educated former English teacher who now lives in Nashville brings a craftsmanship to her work that reveals worldlier background than a backwoods upbringing. The stories she tells in her lyrics are about humble, often unworldly folks but they’re carefully, intimately observed.
Struthers quit teaching in 2008 to dedicate herself to music; her first-place win at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2010 vindicated that choice. Her sophomore album, Carnival, released last April, has earned rave reviews and slots on many Americana-loving reviews “best of 2013” lists.
Tickets are $15.
