One of the Akron Symphony’s most eagerly anticipated concerts is its annual Gospel Meets Symphony.
Now in its 21st year, the event brings together the orchestra and 200 singers from various Akron-area churches to raise the roof of E.J. Thomas Hall. Together they’ll perform an evening of both classical and gospel music, led by Akron Symphony music director Christopher Wilkins and chorus master Jennifer Mekel Jones, with Chuck Collins from the Rubber City Radio Group acting as emcee.
Concertgoers will have the chance to hear from some of the area’s best gospel voices including Wanda Hunt (whose popular blues band plays around town regularly), Johnathon Turner, Marquetta Wootson, Ethel Satterwhite, Charmaine Wilson, Doretha Folds-Williams and Charlene DeJournett.
Tickets are $25-$55, and you should snatch them up soon because this concert is popular.
