It’s been a decade since Cleveland punk rockers Chargers Street Gang were a going concern. The four members have moved on to other ventures, including presiding over a grilled cheese sandwich mini-empire (drummer Matt Fish who owns Melt Bar and Grilled). But they’re not averse to re-assembling for special occasions.
One such occasion is the diverse lineup of some of Cleveland’s most stellar punk-influenced bands playing at the Grog Shop to benefit stalwart Grog Shop employee John Neely, who was injured in October and out of work for a month.
Also on board are Cobra Verde, who’ve earned glowing national press over their 20-plus years and seven albums for their glam-influenced punk; the creatively aggressive This Moment in Black History, fronted with reckless abandon by Chargers guitarist Chris Kulcsar; and Megachurch, whose two bass players and use of samples in place of vocals give them a distinctive sound.
They’re looking to raise money to help Neely pay off some medical bills so they’ll also raffling off prizes donated by local merchants.
Suggested donation at the door is $10.
