Jazz pianist/vocalist George Foley is a familiar figure at area clubs like Nighttown, the Barking Spider, Bon Vivant and the Tavern Company, where he plays every Monday with acoustic upright bassist Gene Epstein.
He’s especially fond of music from the early years of jazz, including ragtime, swing, and blues.
His new album, By George, has 17 tracks that cover the span of his diverse musical interests, including jazz standards, parlor piano pieces from the early 20th century, pieces by jazz legends like Earl “Fatha” Hines, Fats Waller, and Thelonius Monk, the Gershwin standard “How Long Has This Been Going On?,” a couple of his own tunes, and even light classical selections. It’s his first new album since 2004’s ’S Wonderful.
He’ll be on familiar turf — Nighttown — when he debuts the new release with some of his friends from the area jazz scene in tow.
Tickets are $10.
