Folksinger John Gorka Rings in the New Year @ConservancyCVNP

Tue 12/31 @ 8PM

Acoustic singer-songwriter John Gorka was on the leading edge of the folk revival that brought a new crop of performers to the genre in the late ’80s and early ’90s, many of whom, like Gorka, got their start on the east coast.

Gorka started playing around eastern Pennsylvania where he attended college in the late ’70s, then expanded to New York City.

Ultimately he became a popular act on the folk touring circuit across the country. He released his first album in 1987 and now has a catalogue of a dozen albums of his pensive songs that speak fluently to an audience of thoughtful listeners.  Those tunes have been recorded by other folk artists too, including his frequent collaborators Nanci Griffith and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Gorka will ring out the old, ring in the new at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge as part of its Heritage series.

Tickets are $17, or $12 for CVNP conservancy members. For $50 you can register for a dinner prior to the concert where, according to the conservancy, “Chef Larkin Rogers will prepare foods inspired by John Gorka’s Polish heritage and Minnesota home.” The price includes dinner and the concert.
