Cle Folk-Rockers Expecting Rain Share bill With Debuting Farther Shore @BeachlandCLE

Thu 12/26 @ 9PM

Cleveland’s Expecting Rain took their name from a lyric in Bob Dylan’s tune “Desolation Row.” It’s a hint to this group’s lyrically focused, folk-style orientation.

The duo of Nick Tolar and Tony Vorell have been collaborating under that moniker for around a decade now; their last release was 2012’s Fuck the World.  The two also comprise two-fifths of the newer, poppier ensemble Herzog, with Tolar playing guitar and singing and Vorell offstage contributing lyrics.

They’ll be performing on a post-Christmas bill at the Beachland Tavern with a couple of similarly song-minded acts.

Joshua Jesty formerly fronted the excellent, exuberant rock band This Is Exploding, before going on to He now sometimes performs under the unwieldy tag The Universe Doesn’t Stand a Chance Against Joshua Jesty, an indicator of his music’s playful side.

The bill is rounded out by a new local trio called the Farther Shore, playing their first live gig ever, although they already released an album this past summer called Orangutans.

They comprise singer/multi-instrumentalist Tony Bunce who was with the ridiculously tuneful Cleveland popsters the Twilight back in the mid ’00s, along with drummer Josh Young and bassist Justin Jarrett. They describe their music as “ethereal, dream-like pop music.” It’s woozier but not worlds away from what the Twilight were doing.

Admission is $5.
