Ben Vendetta isn’t a native Clevelander, but he and his wife, artist Arabella Proffer, have dug themselves in and become a significant part of the music and arts community since moving here. Vendetta brought along his Elephant Stone records from Los Angeles, where the couple previously lived.
Vendetta, also a music writer who ran his own zine for nearly seven years, has now published a novel called Wivenhoe Park that draws on his experiences in rock ’n’ roll.
According to the press release, it “chronicles the adventures of Drew, a former track star, who has become a pill-popping, dope-smoking, heavy drinking, rock ‘n’ roll-obsessed student with writing aspirations.”
Vendetta is also an accomplished runner. Hmmmm …
It continues, “He moves to England on a whim to escape various demons, such as a goth ex-girlfriend he can’t seem to shake out of his system. Experiencing the ascent of a new indie music scene that includes the Smiths, Jesus and Mary Chain, and Primal Scream, he befriends a cast of characters, including a star Melody Maker journalist, a smooth mod from New York City, and several enticing British girls.”
At very least, he drew on his knowledge of the sort of British and Brit-influenced music he has released on Elephant Stone.
Vendetta will be at Loganberry Books signing copies of Wivenhoe Park. Stop by, pick up a copy, and talk music with him.
It’s free.
