Street construction has wound down, two brand new parking lots are open, and the Waterloo Arts district is ready to celebrate the holidays.
The strip surrounding the Beachland Ballroom holds its Walk All Over Waterloo the first Friday evening of every month. But this month should be exceptionally festive, with decorations, refreshments, music, and multiple and varied Christmas shopping opportunities.
Start at Waterloo Arts (formerly Arts Collinwood) for its annual sale of art and crafts by almost three dozen local artists. It’ll also be hosting a lantern procession down the street, something we need to see more of in Cleveland during these dark, dreary, short winter days. And they’ll be open for shopping all weekend (as will many of the shops).
Working your way up the street you’ll find metal bands headbanging to feed needy people and care for animals at the Beachland Ballroom, a rock & roll holiday photo sale at Space: ROCK Gallery, discounts and treats at Music Saves and Star Pop, and the Winterloo Art Mix — more affordable art from local artists — at the Maria Neil Art Project.
But you’re not done yet!
Keep going and check into Blue Arrow records where the Waterloo Alley Cat Holiday Party will be in full swing. Whisper the secret word (“meow”) to the furry doorkeeper who will let you in for the free snacks and refreshments and opportunity to do some shopping with the proceeds going to benefit neighborhood kitties who don’t have a nice warm record store to live in.You may also be asked to pet the doorkeeper.
Wind up at the Zaller Building, home of Gallery 160, where oils by Canton artist Erin Mulligan will be on display, and there will be a party going on in the courtyard (brrrr!) where a mural by Collinwood artist Linda Zolten Wood will be dedicated, and there will be music, coffee, cocoa, tea, and treats. They’ll also be offering the treats and hot beverages from noon-1:30pm if you want to stop by earlier.
