Two of the country’s best acoustic finger-style guitarists, Nashville’s Pete Huttlinger and Mark Sganga from the New York City area, are making it a two-fer in Northeast Ohio.
Saturday night, they’re part of the nine-guitarist lineup at the Woodchopper’s Ball at the Kent Stage to raise more of the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless.
Sunday night, they’re at Nighttown, giving fans a deeper look into the music they perform.
Huttlinger, a graduate of Boston’s Berklee School of Music, is now an in-demand studio musician who has toured with LeAnn Rimes, the late John Denver, and John Oates. He’s also released a series of his own albums stretching back to 1994, as well as instructional books and videos. His latest release, McGuire’s Landing, came out in August.
Mark Sganga brings world music influences to his finger-style playing, which won his the 2009 International Finger Style Guitar Championship. Much of his recorded output in drenched in South American sounds.
Local opening act Dan Bankhurst should be an additional treat for fans of finger style playing.
This September he was the grand prize winner at the International Home of the Legends competition sponsored by the National Thumb Picking Hall of Fame in Muhlenberg, Kentucky.
The following month he presented his debut CD At First Sight at a release party at Nighttown. He’s set to make his mark on this particular scene.
Tickets are $20.
