Ian Hunter and The Rant Band rocked The Kent Stage in Kent, Ohio on Sat 10/5, ending their US tour in the backyard of Hunter’s adopted hometown of Cleveland.
They featured a good selection of tunes from Hunter’s 2012 release, “When I’m President,” and included a number of Mott The Hoople classics, concluding their rollicking set with the Hunter-penned anthem, “Cleveland Rocks.”
After completing the last night of his most recent US tour, Ian Hunter hung out in the green room at The Kent Stage with Cool Cleveland’s Thomas Mulready and some of his Cleveland area friends, including Weird & Gilly.
The gig featured The Rant Band, Hunter’s touring outfit featuring bandleaders James Mastro on guitar and Steve Holly on drums, with Andy Burton on keys, Paul Page on bass and Mark Bosch on lead guitar.

What an interesting interview. Very relaxed and comfortable. Not at all the typical rock star atmosphere. What a cool get for Cool Cleveland. Can figure out who Weird and Gilly are though?

Was out of town this week-end or would have tried to make this show. Cool stuff.

Continuing to be a Young Dude, I’ll always have a soft spot for whatever Ian does…….but what he’s pulling off in his SEVENTIES absolutely blows my mind. Vids of the last Mott reunion in Britain a couple of years ago showed them to be rockin’ HARDER (and Ian being 72 and most of the band over 67 years old) HARDER than when they were younger. And Ian’s Rant Band is making EXCELLENT music.
So thank-you VERY much Thomas for this backstage footage. NICE to hear about future plans…….and NICE to see he’s not exactly sure of what comes next. The spice of life light remains……..forever young, baby, forever young.
