Live at the Met Returns to Area Screens With Eugene Onegin

Sat 10/5 @ 12:55PM

Wed 10/9 @ 6:30PM

There’s still some live opera in Cleveland, with programs at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Oberlin, and Opera per Tutti putting on programs of opera selections at different locations around town. But there’s no longer any company presenting regular full-scale professional productions.

So Cleveland opera fans gobble up the Live at the Met broadcasts, now in their eighth season.

This season kicks off with Anna Nebrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the first of ten broadcasts his season. It’s quieter and more interior than most operas — nobody jumps off a parapet, dies of consumption, or goes mad, although one character does die early in the opera. But nothing especially dramatic happens to the leads, other than romantic disappointment — and the opportunity to sing lots of lovely music.

It will have two performances at movie theaters around the area, with a live performance on Saturday and an encore performance the following Wednesday. It will screen at Crocker Park, Southpark Mall, Cinemark at Valley View, Severance Center, and Cinemark in Macedonia.

Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors, and $18 for children. Buy tickets here.
