Dweezil Zappa Brings His Dad’s Music to the Kent Stage

Sun 10/13 @ 2PM

Sun 10/13 @ 8PM

No one will ever be Frank Zappa. His distinctive vision, his enormous range, and his proficiency in creating staggeringly complex compositions made him much more than just another “rock” performer.

But his son, Dweezil, now 44, who has become an accomplished musician in his own right, has done his best to keep his late father’s work on the public eye.

His project, Zappa Plays Zappa, performs different combinations and eras of music from Zappa’s vast catalog. When he brings the project to the Kent Stage as part of the Roxy & Elsewhere 40th Anniversary tour, he’ll play all ten tracks from the Roxy & Elsewhere live album, mostly recorded at the Roxy in L.A. in December 1973 and released the following year.

He’s also bringing something extra: an afternoon master class where he’ll demonstrate some of his techniques. It’s open to players of all skill levels, even those who cannot even dream of tackling a difficult Zappa piece.

Tickets to the show is $23-$66. The workshop is $75.
