Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, kicks off its 2013-2014 season by showcasing — itself!
The orchestra will perform a program of 18th-century works for baroque orchestra, among them concertos by Bach, Telemann, Heinichen, and Vivaldi. Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto N. 4 closes the evening.
Montreal-based recorder virtuoso Francis Colpron is one of the soloists, along with flute and recorder player Kathie Stewart and oboist Debra Nagy, who is also the founder/director of Cleveland chamber ensemble Les Delices.
Apollo’s Fire music director Jeannette Sorrell will conduct from her seat at the harpsichord.
Colpron will also give the pre-show talks an hour before each performance.
They’ll be performing Thursday evening at the First United Methodist Church in Akron Friday and Saturday at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights, and Sunday at Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
Tickets are $21 and up.
