Despite intermittently overcast skies, the rain held off his year for WRUW 91.1 FM‘s annual, all-day free concert Studio-A-Rama.
This was the 32nd version of the event, which takes place on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, in the Mather Courtyard behind the building where the college station’s studios are located.
Like last year, the station was able to fill the entire day with Cleveland bands, a sign of just how prolific the local music scene is now. Only co-headliner, San Francisco pop-rocker Mikal Cronin, hailed from outside northeast Ohio. he event’s other co-headliner, Mirrors, are Cleveland legends — one of the bands that was part of Cleveland’s storied ’70s underground scene.
And it seemed as if a significant portion of the crowd were anticipating their set. With an enhanced lineup featuring two additional guitarists for a total of four, the band poured out a powerful wall of sound.
Before Mirrors went on, the steadily growing crowd that included students, gray hairs, and families with small children, was treated to a diverse lineup of area acts that included Wingtones, Ma Holos, Tuk Pennerson & the Weenermen, Smooth Brain, Shitbox Jimmy, Blaka Watra, Home & Garden, Goldmines, and Obnox.
