Old Punk Chick Movies To Show at Negative Space Gallery

Thu 9/12 @ 7PM

Someone’s unearthed a couple of early ’80s movies about unhappy, rebellious teen girls who get sucked into the then-blossoming punk subculture, and they’re showing them at the Negative Space art gallery in Asiatown.

The 1982 film, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains, which screens at 7pm, features an absurdly over-the-top plot about an untalented female punk band who become rock stars. It’s got a credible cast (Diane Lane, Laura Dern , Christina Lahti, appearances by members of the Sex Pistols and the Tubes) and an incredibly ludicrous plot.

The 1980 film Out of the Blue, showing at 9pm, got better reviews. The Dennis Hopper-directed film is about an angry young woman dealing with her dysfunctional family (Hopper played her father).

Between films, they’ll be showing rare trailers.

Best of all, this is a cheap night for movie lovers. All they’re asking is a $5 donation.

And unlike at the multiplex, you can bring your own food and drink, and free popcorn, coffee and tea will be provided.
