Northeast Ohio Will Rock With Ian Hunter at Kent Stage

Sat 10/5 @ 8PM

Ian Hunter is an Englishman who has lived in New York state for nearly four decades. But to some, he’s almost as closely identified with Cleveland as Michael Stanley.

That’s due in large part to his song “Cleveland Rocks,” from his 1979 album You’re Never Alone With a Schizophrenic.

Originally released in 1977 as “England Rocks,” it’s the Cleveland version that has lived on and on and on. For years it was played on WMMS just before 6 pm each week as part of a weekend kickoff music block. And it was used for a while as the theme song of The Drew Carey Show.

Although Hunter was one of the oldest musicians to come out of the second British invasion of the late 60s and early 70s — he’s now 74 — he’s kept right on rocking. He released his 20th solo album When I’m President last year.

He’ll be at the Kent Stage with Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby opening.

Tickets are $30-$40.
