Area singer-songwriter Joshua Jesty, who annoyingly insists on calling his band The World Doesn’t Stand a Chance Against Joshua Jesty, used to be in excellent pop rock ensemble This Is Exploding.
He’s now on his own. And he’s got a new six-song EP titled Wasn’t the World Supposed to End, featuring himself doing pretty much everything, including recording it at his home studio that he calls Infinite Jest.
It’s full of gauzy songs that showcase his keen ear for melody. There’s the gentle folk of “Some Nights,” the layered shoegazer-ish “I Can’t Wait to See Your Light,” the achingly pretty pop of “So What.” Jesty’s vocals alternate between plaintive and wistful or, on “Not Hanging Around,” just casually weird.
He’ll debut the new EP at Mahall’s 20 Lanes where he’ll be playing with Craig Ramsey, formerly of Bears, and Michael Ivy.
Admission is $10.
