Cleveland bassist Bill Barnett will be leading a hell of a band into Nighttown this week, a quintet with awesome chops and experience miles deep.
There’s trumpeter Jacob Wynne, most recently leader of the Revolution Brass Band, as well as the Jacob Wynne Ensemble. In the past he’s performed with Mifune, Carlos Jones’ P.L.U.S. Band and the Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project.
Sax and flute player Tom First has played with such local jazz ensembles as the Kenny Davis Quintet, Ernie Krivda’s Fat Tuesday Band, and the Jazz Revival Orchestra. He’s currently with Latin jazz ensemble Rice and Beans and the Mojo Generations Big Band.
Keyboardist Dan Maier has worked with jazz stars like Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, and Woody Herman and done stints with Blood, Sweat and Tears, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. He currently plays with the Northcoast Jazz Collective.
And drummer Carmen Castaldi played professionally for two decades in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and toured and recorded with Cleveland-raised jazz sax star Joe Lovano, among others, before returning to northeast Ohio.
Barnett himself has 35 years of experience collaborating with musicians in the area, giving him the network to pull together his outstanding bunch. Last year he released an album called BBQ, which featured Wynne, Castaldi and Maier.
Tickets are $10.
