Traditional Music Takes the Stage at Raccoon County Music Festival

Sat 8/17 @ noon-8PM

The Raccoon County Music Festival , now in its eighth year, takes place at the Geauga County Historical Society Century Village Museum in Burton.

And it has an appropriately historical bent, mostly celebrating traditional American music: blues, bluegrass, Cajun, old-time music, and Appalachian shape-note singing. But the day-long festival also tosses in a couple of ringers: a polka band and the eclectic eastern European music of Harmonia.

There’s also a square dance, a kids’ guitar and songwriting workshop, workshops for all on clogging, old-time banjo, and bluegrass banjo, and a fiddle contest. This is real “folk” music so attendees are urged to bring their (acoustic) instruments.

Where do the raccoons come in, you ask?

What do you think a “geauga” is?

Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for 6-12, free 5 and under.
