The Lakewood McDonald’s decided to move from their longstanding site on Sloane Avenue to a higher profile Detroit Avenue address, demolishing the venerable Detroit Theatre in the process. But what becomes of their former location?
Enter the nonprofit Cornucopia, Inc., parent company of the organic grocer Nature’s Bin whose core mission is the retraining of the developmentally disabled. And which happens to be located 300 feet away.
Needing more space to turbocharge their catering operation and sextuple their training program, Cornucopia buys the property and, after the requisite “de-arching,” has been re-habbing the former fast food joint into their Vocational Training Center, a state-of-the-art training and catering facility.
