It’s hard to believe that Mushroomhead, one of Cleveland’s most original and popular metal bands, has been around 20 years this year. It’s easy to forget that the group originally donned its signature masks so as not to distract from their “real” bands while playing in this side project. Who remembers those other bands anymore?
Despite setbacks, breaks that didn’t pan out and some member flux, the group continues to tour, record and make the edgy videos they’re known for.
Initially they released their CDs themselves, selling tens of thousands of copies, and they’ve mostly kept the creativity in house for their entire career. So it’s not like the music industry has a whole lot to say about what they do – only the fans.
And it’s for the longtime fans that the band likes to do what they call “old-school” shows, where they bring back the costumes, masks, stage sets and props, and music that catapulted them in a matter of a little over a year from playing to a few dozen people at the old Grog Shop on a Saturday night to jamming Peabody’s DownUnder so full you couldn’t move.
Mushroomhead will be doing an old school show at Peabody’s with Unsaid Fate opening. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day of show. $75 VIP tickets are also available which includes early admission to get the best spot, soun check, ameet and greet with the band and a VIP t-shirt.
