Trumpeter Kenny Davis is retired from teaching at Oberlin, where he taught for a couple of decades. But this musician, who played with all the Motown greats in the ’60s as a member of the house band at Cleveland’s legendary Leo’s Casino, isn’t one to stash his instrument in a closet.
Instead, he’s assembled a crew of other outstanding local jazz players to form the C-Town Jazz Quintet. It features four other musicians with pedigrees as illustrious as his own: pianist Davis Thomas, drummer Elijah Gilmore, bassist Walter Barner and sax player Ide Ebose.
They’ll be playing at Nighttown. Tickets are $10.
