Akron singer-songwriter Austin Craig is billing his Musica show this week as a “homecoming show.” But it’s unclear where the talented 21-year-old singer-songwriter is coming home from.
It sounds from his press release like he’s coming out of his home and back into the music scene.
He says, “Hey friends, it has been over a year since I played a show here, there or anywhere. It is time to pack the instruments and head out to Musica again.”
So that’s what he’s doing. He’s hoping to raise a little cash to record his next project to follow up last year’s EP A Country Dark.
Craig’s wise lyrics and supple, nuanced vocals, framed by the tunes’ delicate arrangements, reveal a soul and a musical talent much older than his years. Tunes like quietly desperate “Chicagoland” and the morose-but-lilting Dylanesque “Fire on the Edge of Town” show that he can easily compete with some of the most acclaimed and respected Americana songwriter/performers.
Cody J. Martin and the Singular open the show at Musica. Tickets are $8.
