Cleveland Singer-Songwriter Cletus Black Releases New Album at the Winchester

Fri 6/7 @ 9PM

Years ago, I wrote in the Free Times that “Cletus Black‘s music harks back to a generation of blues and country-informed folk rockers who sprang from the loins of Bob Dylan. His roosty eclecticism, storytelling lyrics, strong song writing craft and tough-hewn voice have much in common with the seemingly bottomless pool of talented Texas singer-songwriters, such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zant and Tom Russell. His music would sound more at home in Austin than in his native Cleveland.”

All of that still holds true, since Black makes weathered folk-based music that stands stubbornly outside trends.

Black made some records back in the early 80s and then left the music scene. He returned in 1997 with a CD called Shades of Black.  Since making his comeback, he’s been prolific. His new album, Voodoo Shadow, which he’ll release at a concert at the Winchester is his 12th since his comeback.

Tickets are $10.
