Cleveland music lovers look forward to the annual summertime Countryside Concerts put on by Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra.
Mostly taking place at the Baroque Barn in Hunting Valley, plus a couple of other venues less formal than the churches where the group typically performs during the year, these concerts are more folk than classical.
This year’s series is called “My Father Was a Matchmaker: Tunes & Tales of Love From Old Ireland.” Storyteller Tomaseen Foley, who’s been called the Garrison Keillor of Ireland, will provide a narrative thread, based on his growing up in rural Ireland, that will link the musical numbers and dances.
Guitarist William Coulter is the guest musical director. Soloists include hammered dulcimer player Tina Bergmann, tenor Russ Hauck, fiddler Edwin Huizinga, and dancer/Uilleann pipe player Brian Bigley.
Tickets are $10-$48.
A special 50-minute children’s version of the concert takes place at Bath Church on Tue 6/11 at 4pm. Tickets are $5 for children under 18, $10 for adults.
