Cleveland’s Contemporary Youth Orchestra, made up of young players from around the region, is known for its orchestral arrangements of popular music and collaborative performances with classic rock acts like Styx, Jefferson Starship, and Jon Anderson.
For this year’s spring performance, it’s doing something a little off the charts and possibly a little off the wall. It’s joined forces with over-the-top Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsie Collins, one of the most comical and colorful figures in funk history, for a program it’s calling Psychotic Bump School. Although the number of personnel in Parliament-Funkadelic frequently approached that of a small orchestra, Collins isn’t the sort of person who evokes violas, cellos, and woodwind sections.
This could be … interesting.
They’ll perform at Cleveland State’s Waetjen Auditorium. Tickets are $22-$200.
