VIDEO: Kate Gimore is Smashing at MOCA Cleveland

Kate Gilmore has issues. In a good way.

Starting out as a sculptor and painter, she turned to using the strategies of performance and video. Watch her Cool Cleveland interview here.

“The work I was making wasn’t dynamic enough… I was interested in the chaos of the studio, and getting the humor out, and being witty, but also being smart and funny…”

Offering a refreshing perspective on macho action painters such as Jackson Pollock, Gilmore videotapes herself in a dress and high heels smashing pots of latex paint in a constructed tableaux, displaying the results alongside the video. “There is a feminist conversation with the work.”

Her one-woman show, “Kate Gilmore: Body of Work” is on display through Sun 6/9/13.
