Sun 3/24 @ 3 PM
For 15 years, Passport Project has been bringing workshops, classes, and performance by artists from around the world to its space near Shaker Square. Now it’s looking to up its game by hiring a business manager. And it’s taking a grassroots tack and turning to crowdfunding to do so.
Today the nonprofit group will kick off its Indiegogo campaign with an event that will include performances by the Passport Project Global Dance & Music Collective, Mohamed Tounkara from Guinea in West Africa, percussionist Josh Sherman, reggae band Umojah Nation, the World Is Africa DJs, and others. There’ll also be informal mini-workshops in African dance and percussion and Zumba, food, and an art exhibit with paintings by Grace Needlman and photos by Chloe Hopson, Passport Project’s founder. Drop in any time from 3 to 8 pm — and bring the kids. They’re not just welcome, they’re encouraged.
The event is free, with the hope that once you see what Passport Project offers, you’ll become a supporter.
