VIDEO: Behind-the-Scenes of the Beachland Ballroom with Cindy Barber

Follow along as Cindy Barber, who co-founded the Beachland Ballroom with partner Mark Leddy, takes us behind the scenes to their Tavern, Ballroom and underground vintage shop/record story This Way Out. In a relatively short time, the Beachland Ballroom has become one of the country’s premier alternative music venues.

Watch the video and hear how Akron’s Black Keys, who just scored a couple of Grammy Awards, played their first gig in the Tavern. Or how Jack White played there on the floor before the stage was even built. As the Beachland celebrates their 13th anniversary, Cindy tells us how they’re planning to expand their kitchen offerings and building an outdoor patio for alfresco dining.

Along the way, hear how the Beachland, and Cindy & Mark’s efforts, have helped to transform the North Collinwood neighborhood into the Waterloo Arts District, with art galleries like Arts Collinwood and the new Space Rock gallery, record shops such as Music Saves & Blue Arrow Records, retail shops CLE Clothing Co. and Star Pop, all with a distinctly rock and roll vibe. Next are cool restaurants like the recently-opened Blitz BBQ and Callaloo Cafe and Bar, and plans for even more dining.

Waterloo is on the move, and the Beachland sits right at the heart of the action.
