Cleveland burlesque performer and promoter Bella Sin is a woman on a mission. That mission is to place a historical marker at the site of the Roxy, the theater that hosted the top national burlesque stars in the 40s and 50s, near E. 9th and Euclid.
The Roxy Remembered, at the Beachland Ballroom, is a gala tribute and fundraising evening featuring burlesque performers, Twiggy Stardust, Carmen M’Knoxide, Constantinople Darling, Ava Adore, Fantasie D’Light, Bella Sin, and — all the way from England — Peggy De Lune. But that’s not all, not by a long shot. The evening is a true variety show in the manner of old-school burlesque, with magician Ray Raymond, swing dancers Corey Flowers and Dani Dowler, ventiloquist Nate Puppets, female illusionist Stevie Reese Desmond, top banana Gilgamesh Taggett, and the Cleveland Rock and Roll Follies with Sable Starling, Doll Bambino and Little Owly.
Historical images from the Roxy will be on display, along with a short trailer for a film in the works about the theater. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.
