Emilie Autumn at Peabody’s

Sun 2/24 @ 8PM

Emilie Autumn is one of those performers who inspires fanatical loyalty in fans and head-scratching puzzlement in those who don’t get it. A classically trained violinist, she says she left Indiana University’s conservatory over disagreements about her steampunk style of presentation.

With her Victorian, literary, and cabaret influences, she’s working the same general territory as Rasputina and Dresden Dolls. But her bleeding-wound, confessional approach to her songwriting and performances takes her appeal to damaged kids (or those who fancy themselves damaged) to another level, using her childhood abuse, her bipolar disorder, her attempted suicide, and her stint in a mental hospital as raw material for her art. Her performance at Peabody’s is a rescheduled date from last year. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
