It IS easy being green. That’s the message for the upcoming exhibit at The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, Seeing Green: Recycled. The exhibition will feature the works of Cleveland artists who use eco-friendly products, recycled materials, and creating art that depicts themes of environmental sustainability. Art lovers and eco-conscious Clevelanders should make plans to head out for the opening reception on Fri 9/23 from 5PM to 8PM at The Artist Archives of the Western Reserve, 1834 E 123rd Street in University Circle, off of Euclid Avenue across from Lakeview Cemetery. The show will run through Fri 10/28.

The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) put out a call to Cleveland artists. They were looking for works of art that would make the Earth proud. Developed with generous support from the Gund Foundation, the upcoming exhibition aims to create awareness among artists about sustainable art practices and inspire them to create art using ecologically responsible materials and techniques. The show also hopes to educate the art buying public about green art and the importance of buying art locally. An open call to local artists connected with feature artists Ann Arnold, Margaret Arthur, Joseph Borsuk, Suzie Frazier, Barbara Gillette, Tom Hubbard, Alice Kiderman, Suzan Kraus, Mario Kujawski, Janet Mikolajczyk, Susan Parente, John Ranally and Mary Stone. Seeing Green: Recycled is a juried exhibition, and three winners will be announced at the opening reception. Jurors include Albert Albano, Executive Director of the Intermuseum Conservation association and William Martin Jean, professional artist and longtime faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
A unique, non-profit archival facility, the AAWR was created to preserve representative bodies of work created by Ohio visual artists. A “living archive,” the AAWR has frequent exhibitions, like Seeing Green: Recycled at its University Circle facility. The AAWR serves as the region’s repository for artists who are looking for a place to preserve their work while making it accessible to the public.
Seeing Green: Recycled opening reception is Fri 9/23 from 5PM – 8PM. The exhibit runs through Fri 10/28. Regular gallery hours are Wed-Fri from 10AM to 4PM and Sat from noon to 4PM. Free parking is available in the AAWR lot and in front of the building. Check out the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve’s website or call 216-721-9020 for more information.
