The Warehouse District is disappearing…

“Cleveland’s Disappearing Warehouse District: Then and Now” makes it into the The Atlantic. Hey, who needs buildings when you can have flat surface lots, right?

  1. I am so confused. I have been a Cool Cleveland reader for a few years now. I was under the impression that improving the situation in northeast Ohio was a priority for Cool Cleveland. Here I’ve read lots of articles about economic, environmental, and “attitudinal” (if that is a word) improvements fostered by people, events and trends. An article like this is seriously out of place. The flavor presented here seems to be nostalgia for buildings. I used to spend a lot of time in Cleveland. When I visit now, I do not miss empty buildings. I like that I can park in front of a great restaurant for lunch before a browns game. I have been in neighborhoods all over recently with lots and lots of empty houses. The feeling, the attitude, the environment is not better for having buildings. If the buildings were empty and torn down to make way for flat poured concrete, amen. Pretty soon the remaining empty buildings might make way for flat, planted grass. I’d much rather live in a tree infested city like Portland Oregon than a graveyard of buildings like Detroit of late. What is this article trying to say?
