Tamera Lash Brown Appointed GM at new Greater Cleveland Aquarium
After six years at Positively Cleveland, the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, Tamera Lash Brown has been appointed General Manager of the new Greater Cleveland Aquarium.
Tami quickly rose to the position of Vice President of Marketing at Positively Cleveland, where she oversaw half of the Bureau’s mandate: marketing the region and it’s assets, the other half being the sales of tours and conventions.
During her tenure, the Bureau went through a name change to become Positively Cleveland, and was instrumental in the formation of the Cleveland Plus Marketing Alliance, a collaboration between Positively Cleveland, The Greater Cleveland Partnership and TeamNEO. During this time, plans for the upcoming Medical Mart and Convention Center were debated and finalized. Her move comes at a time when Positively Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission have embarked on an effort to share a single CEO, Dave Gilbert of the Sports Commission, and re-organize itself in the wake of the new environment created by the Convention Center and Medical Mart, operated by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. of Chicago.
“I am eager to begin assembling a team to maximize the educational and family entertainment experience of this great new Cleveland attraction,” said Brown. “This will be the only aquarium within a four-hour radius of the city and promises to be a great draw for tourism in addition to local residents.”
The Aquarium, owned and operated by New Zealand’s Marinescape, is on schedule to open in December 2011 in the FirstEnergy Powerhouse in the Flats, and will feature display areas for freshwater exhibition and a 145-foot seatube through shark-infested coral reefs.
