So… so what?! “So” is the name of Royden Watson’s latest exhibit @ Proximity Gallery. His work is fascinatingly linguistic and conversational.
Tell me more: “Royden Watson’s work has been praised by his peers and students for its convincing subtlety and skillful construction. To those unfamiliar with his work, it may appear almost too subtle. Though this misinterpretation could be considered an achievement to one who works in a trompe l’oeil style, technique is a device and not the subject of his work. An isolated piece of plywood or a family of 2’ x 4’s may leave the passive viewer wondering ‘So…so what?!’ Those that are willing to initiate a relationship with Watson’s work will find that there is a labor-intense and intimate connection between the artist, the object, and its representation, where each concentric grain reveals itself as oil paint, meticulously applied ‘just so.'”
