ARTSYISM: Art for Autism
A backyard garden party with purpose

Autism affects approximately 9 per 1000 children in the United States. Help change that by going to ARTSYISM, a Sun 7/17 backyard garden party. While there, you’ll experience the culinary, musical, and visual arts.

Join ARTSYISM co-chair Donald Bingham Schmitt for a champagne brunch from 10:30AM – 12:30PM at 1579 Compton Road in Cleveland Heights, followed by an art show from 12:30 – 5:30PM. Tickets for the brunch are $50 and general admission for the show of artists and food vendors is $5.

Food at the brunch will be provided by Club Isabella’s chef and owner Fabio L. Mota, who was trained at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. He’ll be working his magic with foods similar to the Classic French cuisine, Spanish tapas, sushi, and Greek meze he serves at the restaurant located at 2175 Cornell Road in University Circle. Think shellfish pizza and Brussels sprout salad and you get the idea.

During brunch, entertainment will be provided by Verb Ballet, Cleveland’s national repertory contemporary dance company. The Verb Ballet is committed to raising Clevelanders’ awareness of modern dance, and regularly performs for benefits.

Forty artists, all local, are participating in the afternoon art show. They will show off their jewelry, paintings, accessories, clothing, glass, and plate creations. Some of the art has been made by autistic vendors. The food vendors will be selling gourmet sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, tea cakes, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Autism Speaks is a nonprofit organization that funds research into the causes, treatments, and cure of autism. 20% of the proceeds from ARTSYISM will benefit Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization that funds research into the causes, treatments and cure of autism.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number of people diagnosed with autism has dramatically increased in the last 30 years, partly due to changes in diagnostic practice. Autism Speaks provides support to parents to help autistic children gain social and communication care and become more self-sufficient. ARTSYISM has raised over $10,000 in the past few years, and the money from this event will support the walk team Noah’s Ark at Cleveland’s Walk Now. The event is chaired by Shari Goldberg, Jeri Chaikin, and Donald Bingham Schmitt.
