Rock Hall Induction 2011 Simulcast in Cleveland
There’s no better way to spend a Monday night in Cleveland than hobnobbing with the semi-famous (hey, we’ll be there!) at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame watching the always-entertaining antics of the new inductees as they give speeches, give each other a hard time, and then give it all during their musical performances.
Be there for the watch party at the low low ticket cost of $5 and catch the following 2011 Inductees and their presenters on the closed-circuit widescreen, live from the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC:
— Alice Cooper will be inducted by Rob Zombie (White Zombie)
— Neil Diamond will be inducted by Paul Simon
— Dr. John will be inducted by John Legend
— Darlene Love will be inducted by Bette Midler
— Tom Waits will be inducted by Neil Young
— Jac Holzman will be inducted by John Densmore (The Doors)
— Art Rupe will be inducted by Lloyd Price
— Leon Russell will be inducted by Elton John
Although not receiving an award, the ghost of the now-imprisoned (for murder!) Phil Spector and his influential Wall of Sound will haunt the proceedings. Rumor has it that Bruce Springsteen, a huge Phil Spector fan, may make an appearance in support of Darlene Love, who he had invited on stage with the E Street Band in the late 1970’s at the Cleveland Coliseum. Love had a number of Spector-produced hits in the early 1960’s, as lead singer of The Crystals, such as “He’s A Rebel,” and “(Today I Met) the Boy I’m Gonna Marry.” Word is that Alice Cooper is the only artist bringing his own band, while the rest will be backed up by the hottest house band around, headed, as usual, by Paul Schaffer. And this year, rather than flipping back and forth, they plan to give out all the awards at the beginning of the night, then setting the stage on fire with all the performances one after another.
Our guess: Alice Cooper will say something outrageous, and Tom Waits will be hilarious. But the highlight will probably be Elton John and Leon Russell, together on stage after their recent T-Bone Burnett-produced release, “The Union,” even if Russell, former pianist with Phil Spector’s studio ensemble, will probably arrive with a cane.
