Be at the Grog Shop on Thu 1/27 for the official CD release of Coverage, a musical collaborative featuring Cle’s brightest musicians playing the songs of Charlie Mosbrook, leader of the Cle coffeehouse scene. Featured musicians include: Carlos Jones, Hal Walker, Alan Grandy, Xela, Rob Covert, Rob Loss, Nicky English, Morgan Mecaskey of Tinamou, Andy Cohen, Matt Harmon, Charlie Mosbrook, John McGrail, Jay Bentoff, Linda and Kevin Roy of Jehova Waitresses, Avin Baird, Tim Brennan, Aaron C Smith, Becca Bessinger, Erika Carey, GEN-ERIC, Larkin Bryant, Alice Moss, Dave Michelson.
About Charlie and Coverage:
For more than 20 years Charlie Mosbrook has led the success and growth of coffeehouse entertainment in the Cleveland area. By 1988, Charlie began to develop open mics and acoustic showcases which have become known for attracting the best new performers and often include the biggest acts around town. The success of these shows has been built on simplicity, inclusiveness, and the goal of building community through music. The strength of his longevity is owed to his personal commitment to an ongoing environment of creativity, learning, and entertainment.
As a musician and songwriter, the admiration of his peers is best explained through this collection of his songs, performed by some of the best musicians in the area, providing us a glimpse of the rich musical culture and diversity that has fueled his dedication to his craft. According to Eric Schneider, an Associate Producer for Coverage, “Participating in producing an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, Caribbean, rock, and electronic music with some of the most well known musicians in Cleveland to support and celebrate Charlie’s work has been like watching a piece of Cleveland music history come together.”
At the time this project was conceived Charlie suffered a spinal cord injury, receiving surgery and acute physical therapy. Six days after his discharge from the hospital, using crutches and still wearing a cervical collar, he returned to his role as open mic host. These original recordings remain unified in Charlie’s message of community, hope, and perseverance over adversity. The Coverage CD is a tribute to his commitment and music.
