Fri 6/14 @ 5-7PM

As part of its celebration of Juneteenth, the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College is opening an exhibit called A Look Amongst the Stars, curated by one of the area’s rising young art stars, Davon Brantley. It’s the gallery’s 3rd annual Juneteenth exhibition.

“In this exhibition,” they say, “we are not just celebrating the freedom African Americans were notified of late but to also acknowledge the history of African Americans consistently being disregarded, invisible and being the last people to obtain information and resources. This exhibition forces people to pay attention to these artists and support them now rather than later.

For this show, Brantley has chosen ten artists who, like him, are under 30 (Brantley is 28), riffing on the idea of supporting artists early in their careers and not making them wait for the resources they need. Some of these artists are already beginning to make a name for themselves, while others may be happy discoveries for art lovers. They include Amirah Cunningham, Amber N. Ford, Crystal Miller, Stevie Patterson, Deanne Smith, Lauren Sylvia, Lacy Talley, Derek Walker, Amani Williams and Christafreehands.

There’s a free opening reception Friday June 14 from 5-7pm. The show will be on view through August 22.
