The Cleveland Orchestra Plays Outdoors on Wade Oval

Wade Oval Wednesdays crowd by Anastasia Pantsios

Wed 6/26 @ 5:30-8:30PM

Wade Oval Wednesdays are in full swing, with free music in the swath of green space between the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Cleveland Museum of Art every Wednesday through August 14.

Diversity is their goal so you’ll hear jazz, reggae, R&B, Latin music, rock and, this week, classical music, when the Cleveland Orchestra musicians make the short walk over from Severance Music Center to perform, giving the concert a rare contingency plan: it will take place at Severance if the weather’s bad (Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band, who perform July 3, got cancelled twice last summer due to threatening weather.)

There’ll be a pre-show performance by the Cleveland School of the Arts Student Band Stix and student vocalists with the orchestra taking the stage at 7 to play music by Leonard Bernstein, Nikola Rimsky-Korsakov, William Grant Still, Bedrich Smetana, and the orchestra’s current composer in residence, Valerie Coleman. Vinay Parameswaran who spent five seasons as assistant and associate conductor with The Cleveland Orchestra will be returning to lead this concert..

As usual, there’ll be an array of food vendors, plus activities from community partners including The Music Settlement, The Center for Arts Inspired Learning, UCI Community Engagement and The Cleveland Orchestra.

It’s free and open to all. Bring your chair or blanket — do not bring a tent!
