Rib White and Blue Takes Over Downtown Akron for Four Days

Wed 7/3-Sat 7/6 @ 11AM-11PM

Akron is getting quite a rep for cancelling major events following incidents of violent out of fear that “trouble” might happen. A few weeks ago, it cancelled a host of Juneteenth events, and two years ago, the victim was its annual July 4 festival, Rib White and Blue, taking place downtown at Lock 3, following the police shooting of a Black man a week earlier.

Hopefully no such incidents will put a halt to the four-day festival this year, with its host of rib vendors and other purveyor of fair-type food as well as beer.

There’s also tons of entertainment, stating at 1pm each day on the Main Street Stage with a roster of performers from DJ Timbo Williams doing multiple sets each day, the Black Beanz African dancers and a variety of musicians and bands ranging from rap to reggae to folk to pop to indie rock. Over on the Cleveland Clinic Stage next to the Akron Civic Theatre, concerts start at 7pm, and while this when they roll out their usual tribute bands on Thursday and Friday, you can’t go wrong checking out Sammy DeLeon and his high-voltage Latin jazz on Wednesday and blues singer/guitarist Larry McCray on Saturday.
