Every week from mid-June to mid-August, Wade Oval becomes a community gathering place on Wade Oval Wednesdays, with live local music in genres ranging from classical to Latin, jazz to country to R&B to rock & roll.

The biggest Wednesday of all is typically the one before July 4, the slot reserved for Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band. On these (hopefully) balmy days, the band’s warm, inclusive, uplifting reggae finds confluence with the impending holiday celebration. Jones has been performing in the area since the late 70s, and was one of the front men for the wildly popular First Light in the 80s and 90s — and the “reggae family” still turns out to dance up a storm whenever he plays. Both his shows — his regular date and a makeup date tacked on the end of the series — got rained out last year, so his fans should be ready for a good time, especially since his date hits on Fourth of July eve this year.

The pre-show set will be provided by Sam Poetry, with Kelli Michelle’s Zumba at halftime in case you want to warn up for the dancing during Carlos’ set.

Wade Oval Wednesdays are free, and there are always food and drink vendors of all types, as well as organizations hosting activities and information about their work. They are definitely kid-friendly!
