Jazz guitarist Russell Malone is known for his work with pop/jazz artists Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall. But he also performs as a band leader with his own small ensemble — a quartet or trio — and has a dozen albums with his own name on the cover. One of those, 2001’s Heartstrings, was produced by Cleveland native, the legendary producer Tommy LiPuma.
Malone will be making a two-day stop in northeast Ohio. He’ll perform at Nighttown on Tuesday 9/3 @ 7PM and at BluJazz Akron Wed 9/14 @ 8PM with a group featuring Cleveland-area musicians: pianist Drene Ivy, bassist Glenn Holmes and drummer Paul Samuels.
In addition, he’ll be doing a master class at BluJazz prior to his show there. Tickets to either concert are $25 for the Nighttown show, $25 in advance and $30 at the door for the BluJazz show with a $20 ticket price for students with ID.
