The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University, has announced that its 20th annual Music Masters series will pay tribute to Motown star Smokey Robinson. He is the first performer associated with the legendary Detroit label to be honored.

As usual, the event will feature a week of panels, speakers, films and other events culminating  on Sat 11/7 with a tribute concert at PlayhouseSquare’s Palace Theatre. Details and rocket information will be announced in upcoming weeks.

The 75-year-old Robinson began his singing career in the mid ’50s, and topping the charts over and over in the ’60s with his group the Miracles as one of the label’s biggest hitmakers. He was also known as one of the label’s top songwriters, penning such hits as Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t That Peculiar,” “My g]Girl” and “Get Ready” for the Temptations, and “My Guy” for Mary Wells, and “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game” for the Marvelettes. He went on to a solo career in the ’70s. He was also an executive at Motown.

Robinson will attend the event, but will not perform.
